Curriculum Overview
    1. Breakfast-Order forms are sent home at the beginning of the year and need to be sent back as soon as possible, 8:35-8:50 ONLY, no charges, students arriving past 8:40 will not be served breakfast
    2. Spelling- FUNdations, focuses on concepts of spelling rather than memorization, ONLY trick words need to be memorized since they don’t fit in a concept

    3. ELA-We will continue to use The Benchmark Literacy program. The ELA and Fundations blocks will be combined into one whole block. We will be implementing flex groups this year for guided reading. For guided reading and fundations, your child may have a different teacher than their homeroom teacher. This will be based off of your child's reading level and to ensure their success!  

    4. Novel Units- We will be reading 3 novels this year and completing various activities for each novel. We will be reading: Stone Fox; Because of Winn-Dixie; and Charlotte’s Web

    5. Recess- 15 minutes outside, jackets needed with cold weather

    6. Lunch- Please send lunch money in an envelope with child’s name, find menu on website

    7. Writing- Writer’s Workshop(Benchmark Literacy Curriculum), daily independent journal during centers, writing process, modeling, mentor texts, use rubrics to grade, paragraphs, Personal Narrative, Procedural, Non-Fiction, Letters, other stories

    8. Math- Go Math, We will now be using the Go Math curriculum to meet the Common Core Standards, we will work in large & small groups, completed review page sent home day before tests, Rocket Math. The students’ login information will be sent home so they can play Go Math games at home.

    9. Academic Lab-An academic, teacher facilitated time where students have the opportunity to enhance learning through extension activities that offer a hands on approach. There will be different topics covered throughout the year. Anything taught during this period will not be graded.
