Language Arts- The Benchmark Literacy program consists of 30 weeks of explicit comprehension-focused lessons for the whole class, small groups, and intervention. Assessment-driven instruction that is differentiated and includes responding to text.  Small group work will allow students to work on their own specific guided reading level with students alike.

*Students will now be switching classes during ELA, Guided Reading, Novel Units, and Writing. Based on your child's grouping they may be working with Ms. Myers, Ms. Sieck, or myself. This practice has been put in place so that students can work in a homogeneous setting with students that share similar struggles and strengths.

Novel Units- We will be reading 3 novels this year and completing various activities for each novel. Each text will expose children to grade level literature and vocabulary. We will be reading: Stone Fox; Because of Winn-Dixie; and Charlotte’s Web.

Math- We will be using a new Math program this year called Go Math!  This program combines 21st-century educational technology with modern content, dynamic interactivities, and a variety of instructional videos to engage today’s digital natives. Every student is supported through the universal access features of the program as they learn to think critically and apply their math knowledge.

Writing- We focus on three major writing pieces in third grade (Personal Narrative, Opinion, Informational). Writer's will also use their daily independent journal during centers. Grammar components will be supplemented throughout each unit.

Fundations- This program focuses on concepts of spelling rather than memorization, ONLY trick words need to be memorized since they don’t fit a concept.

Social Studies/Science- Students will be studying Social Studies for the first two marking periods of the year and Science the last two marking periods. We are excited to introduce a new Science program this year that allows a hands-on approach to discovery and education.

Academic Lab-
During this period, students and teachers will facilitate a time where there is an opportunity to enhance learning through an extension of activities that offer a hands on approach to six different themes throughout the year. The themes will be a mix of review and new content that allows students to extend their knowledge on various subjects.
